form Edition #4, “Stoneware Plates” by Katrin Greiling, 2017
Berlin-based Swedish-German designer Katrin Greiling has designed two stoneware plates as form Edition #4.
Greiling’s working methods and design style are characterised by her Swedish design education and periods of living in Stockholm and Dubai. She studied carpentry at the Swedish art school Capellagården, and experimented also with ceramics and textiles at the same time. She originally created the organically shaped stoneware plates during this period, whereas in 2011, she designed and produced them for the Design Bar at the Stockholm Furniture Fair together with Capellagården students of ceramics. For form Edition #4, Greiling used a casting process for the first time to release a new design of the glazed porcelain stoneware plates. She produced this exclusive, two-colour edition in reddish brown and sand with the help of the Bavarian manufacturer Kaufmann Keramik.
Founded in 2005, in Stockholm, Studio Greiling is a multidisciplinary design studio focusing on furniture design, interior architecture, and photography. After completing her master of fine arts at Konstfack University in Stockholm, Greiling lived in Dubai, building up a reputation for her studio, while working as an architect, furniture designer, and photographer at the same time. She has received many awards worldwide for her projects. Greiling has been a guest professor at the German Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar since 2014.
The Stoneware Plates measure 18 and 21 centimetres (diameter). The edition is a set of two, limited to 100 pieces, and can be obtained for 59 euros including VAT, plus shipping.
